A hydrocarbon highway in nine mile canyon?
private interests want to drive oil tankers through the world’s longest art gallery.
Duchesne County Special Service District #2 is asking the Bureau of Land Management to pave Gate Canyon, a six-mile access road from Duchesne County to Nine Mile Canyon. This would benefit private oil extraction corporations who wish to improve connectivity between the Uintah Basin and Wellington Rail Transfer Station. They want to turn a rural dirt road into a hydrocarbon highway. Documents reveal that they could transport hundreds of barrels of crude oil on this route each day. By their own calculations, there would be an oil tanker passing through every three minutes. Join our coalition to Save Nine Mile Canyon and tell the BLM to deny the right-of-way application that would turn this precious archeological resource into a hydrocarbon highway.
